Sustainable Development

In the past decade, our work has mainly been on Sustainable Development and urban issues.

Local Communities and the Environment Seminars
In 1997 EPSM embarked on a Local Communities and the Environment project which supported the establishment of Local Agenda 21 among local authorities. EPSM held a series of public awareness raising seminars on Local Agenda 21 which focuses on achieving sustainable development through partnerships between local authorities and communities.

Ecological Footprint & Sustainable Living in Malaysia (SLiM) Project

Our work on Sustainable Development is being continued through the current Ecological Footprint and Sustainable Living in Malaysia (SLiM) project.

    In support of this initiative, we are organizing the following:

  • National Workshop (13 - 14 June 2007) on Introduction to the Concept of the Ecological Footprint to be held at Menara Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya
  • National Conference and Public Forum (15 - 16 June 2007) on Living Well within the Ecological Limits of Our Planet to be held at Balai Ungku Aziz, Fakulti Pergigian, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur

Work on other urban issues
  • In the 70s and 80s, we successfully introduced the Enviro Walk Campaigns and the results were sent to the Local Authority, Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya
  • We also successfully initiatated the Polluter of the Year Award
  • We are currently a member of the Malaysian Climate Change Group
Other Issues

We participated in the “Waterfront Protection and Reinstatement of Mangrove Forests” project at Sabak Bernam carried out by Perwira Bintang Holdings Sdn Bhd. as part of their Corporate Responsibility Programme. Our contribution included a “Plant a Tree Today” (PATT) initiative.
